Is ringworm in cats contagious to humans?
Yes. Ringworm is a fungal infection that transfers readily to people, and children are most susceptible. Handle an affected cat with gloves, wash hands afterwards, and vacuum thoroughly — spores survive in the environment for months. It is treatable, but the course takes weeks.
How do I know if it's fleas when I can't see any?
Comb over a damp white tissue. Flea dirt looks like black grit that smears rust-red when wet, because it is digested blood. That is proof of fleas even when no adult flea is visible — and in an allergic cat, very few fleas are needed to cause severe itching.
Why does my cat have dandruff?
Flaking along the back often means your cat has stopped grooming that area — usually because of arthritis, obesity or pain making it hard to reach. It can also be dietary or parasitic. In an older cat, dandruff over the lower back is worth mentioning as a possible mobility sign.
Can I bathe my cat for a skin problem?
Only with a shampoo your vet recommends and only if your cat tolerates it. Most cats find bathing genuinely stressful, and the wrong shampoo strips the skin and makes things worse. For most feline skin problems, bathing is not the treatment.
